Disco Radio

Disco music is a music genre with several elements like R&B, funk, soul and pop. Disco songs usually have soaring, often reverberated vocals over a steady four-on-the-floor beat. Originally the disco music was born out of the urban gay culture in New York City but in the mid and late 1970s it quickly moved into a mainstream music genre. The disco music brought together all sorts of people. Everyone could came together and dance to the music no matter if you were black or white, straight or gay. The popularity of disco music became insane after the successful film Saturday Night Fever. The film’s soundtrack produced numerous Top 10 hits and the album sold over 15 million copies.

The popularity of the disco music inspired many great artist to produce this kind of tracks. A great example is Michael Jackson’s superb hit ‘Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough’. Among the biggest disco hits there are songs like ‘Disco Inferno’ and ‘You Should Be Dancing’ from the Bee Gees. The Bee Gees were a band that existed for quite a long time but the turning point of their career was their participation in the creation of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. After the success of this movie they produced several number one hits like How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever and Stayin Alive.

You can still hear the influence of the disco music in nowadays music. In fact there is a little revival of the disco music. In 2013 Daft Punk produced a great hit together with Pharell Williams named Get Lucky. The song is in fact a classic disco song with a steady four-on-the-floor beat. Fortunately there are nowadays, especially in the United States, still many radio stations who broadcast only the best disco classics. Disco music will always stay alive!
