History

Crossfire Radio is the brainchild of Robin Ellis & Darren Smithson. Having worked on their own individual shows previously and realising they had similar ideas and aspirations for a radio station they combined their efforts to create Crossfire Radio. Both Robin and Darren's shows centre around Rock Music but they always hoped to include shows and presenters playing music of varied genre in the future. This ambition has been realised with the addition of a host of new DJs with different format or genre rock shows (with more joining us soon), and the launch of a sister channel, CFR Xtra, which hosts the non-rock shows, specials and pilots.

The Baron's Rock Show

DJ: Darren The Baron Smithson

The Baron's Rock Show goes out on Wed nights between 7-10pm and is hosted by Darren The Baron Smithson. The Baron's Rock Show plays an equal mixture of classic rock tracks by bands you'll know and hidden gems from bands you probably won't have heard of before but which you need to hear. The BRS will shortly be changing format until the end of 2018, with each show genre or theme based.

Doc's Blues Rock Show

DJ: Stephen The Doc Hunt

A 3 to 4 hour show on CFRXTRA every Monday night hosted by Stephen "The Doctor" Hunt and featuring the likes of BB King, Bad Company, Rory Gallagher, John Lee Hooker, Joe Bonamassa and many more. The show covers all blues and blues rock genres.

The Sunday Rock Show

DJ: Rockin' Robin Ellis

The Sunday Rock Show is 3 hour show playing the best classic and new rock tunes mixed with listener requests and is hosted by "The Reverend' Robin Ellis. The request line will be posted on the Facebook page for the show on a Tuesday afternoon and will close on Saturday evening @7pm. Expect plenty of Molly Hatchet, Deep Purple, Asia, Magnum, Doro Pesch and so on, plus whatever our listeners throw at us.

The Triple D Show

DJ: Louise Barnsworth

Our newest DJ and show goes out every Tuesday at 7.30pm on CFRRock. Ms DoD (aka Louise Barnsworth) will bring you classic rock, modern guitar based rock and pop, and soft rock with more than the odd surprise thrown in for good measure. The Triple D stands for the Dame of Disorder's Delights.

Drive with Doc & The Gang

Drive With The Doc & The Gang is a show every Thursday from 3pm to 630pm and is hosted by Stephen 'The Doc' Hunt on CFRXtra. Always an eclectic mix of rock, pop, blues and classical music and includes features such as Brain Cells Working, Doc and Ann Have it Covered, Thought For Thursday, Coffee Break Slot etc.

The Wednesday Supplement

The Wednesday Supplement is a magazine style show every Wed from 2pm to 6pm and is hosted by Darren 'The Baron' Smithson on CFRXtra. Featuring the best pop, classical and alternative rock music, features and commentary, classic radio comedy and Twilight Zone style radio plays and serials, the show is also the home for the amazing Gabby Young and is the premiere non rock based show for the station.

The Dame's Mix Up

DJ: Dame Penny Buxton

Every Thursday at 7.00pm, and hosted by Dame Penny Buxton, the show plays rock of all genres, with a particular fondness for symphonic and southern rock. Expect Molly Hatchet and Delain, along with BB King, Thin Lizzy, Joe Bonamassa & Iron Maiden.

Showcase & Specials

Genres: Alternative, Rock

Rock Showcase goes out on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 7pm and is a 2 to 4 hour show focusing on one particular band or artist and their offshoots. For example, a show on Deep Purple may include songs from Gillan, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Blackmore's Night etc. The Crossfire Special shows are adhoc shows usually broadcast on a Saturday night when we're feeling bored, and can be on either the main CFR station or on CFRXtra. What could be the reason there is no sound?

1. Make sure your speakers and the media player are not muted :) Not an uncommon problem ;)
2. Please try again in another browser, preferably Chrome, Firefox and when using a windows media player option Internet Explorer.
3. Try another stream type clicking: windows media player or external player as alternative
4. Be patient, some radiostations load within 10-20 seconds due to high traffic issues.
5. If you do not have any flash player we automatically load the second best player, so again be patient.
6. If the stream doesn't start automatically please click the play button or the mp3 option on the right, please retry 1,2 or 3 times. Most of the times this works.
7. If you are using a windows media player, this will mostly only work in Internet Explorer.
8. A radiostation might be temporarily unavailable due to several reasons. If your favorite station is not working right now, please try again in a few moments.
9. The media player isn't showing/working in your browser, check below what you can do about it
10. Try another computer or device (tablet, phone etc).
11. Some radiostations have limited rights for international broadcasting. Some stations only broadcast in their own country. For example BBC in the UK and lots of stations in the US. If you really want to listen use a proxy server from that specific country to solve this problem.
12. Report this issue using our Broken Link page or send an email to [email protected]. We are able to see if there is something wrong.

Why do I see a grey screen?

Probably this is caused by an popup adblocker

Stream keeps on buffering
In Windows Media Player you can improve this. Go to Extra, Options, and then tab performance to extend the netwerkbuffer to 15 seconds.
