Radio Mercury first started broadcasting in October of 1984 from the lovely Broadfield House in Crawley, West Sussex, UK. Our first frequencies were 103.6fm and 1521am but to further the reach and provide a better quality for our listeners we changed to 102.7fm with an additional transmitter for Horsham on 97.5. From the very begining Radio Mercury was designed to be the local station for Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire and we worked hard to make sure all were catered for. Our music policy was predominately classic hits with some new releases whilst our specialist programmes at the weekend were designed to please devotees of soul and disco, country, nostalgia and comedy. In 1991 we took over our near neighbours in local radio - County Sound, which was re-branded to the Mercury name. We broadcast local programmes during the day from studios based in Guildford, Haslemere and Crawley. The evening and overnight programmes were centrally broadcast from Crawley - although local advertising, jingles and promotions were still broadcast to their respective transmitters by special software which was revolutionary in local radio at the time. It was also around this time that we split programming on the AM frequencies and a new service was born, mainly oldies and conversation, this for a short time retained the County Sound name. However, due to a certain copyright claims and to establish a better link and brand identity the AM service name was changed to Mercury Extra AM. They say all good things come to an end and that was certainly the case for the old Radio Mercury, following a take over, the music policy was changed to top 40 hits and programming became a lot less local. The audience noticed and didn't like it, with market share going from its peak of 48% down to just over 7%. Another take over happened and then the station was rebranded again this time to Heart. However, thanks to the power of the internet, we're back!

What could be the reason there is no sound?

1. Make sure your speakers and the media player are not muted :) Not an uncommon problem ;)
2. Please try again in another browser, preferably Chrome, Firefox and when using a windows media player option Internet Explorer.
3. Try another stream type clicking: windows media player or external player as alternative
4. Be patient, some radiostations load within 10-20 seconds due to high traffic issues.
5. If you do not have any flash player we automatically load the second best player, so again be patient.
6. If the stream doesn't start automatically please click the play button or the mp3 option on the right, please retry 1,2 or 3 times. Most of the times this works.
7. If you are using a windows media player, this will mostly only work in Internet Explorer.
8. A radiostation might be temporarily unavailable due to several reasons. If your favorite station is not working right now, please try again in a few moments.
9. The media player isn't showing/working in your browser, check below what you can do about it
10. Try another computer or device (tablet, phone etc).
11. Some radiostations have limited rights for international broadcasting. Some stations only broadcast in their own country. For example BBC in the UK and lots of stations in the US. If you really want to listen use a proxy server from that specific country to solve this problem.
12. Report this issue using our Broken Link page or send an email to [email protected]. We are able to see if there is something wrong.

Why do I see a grey screen?

Probably this is caused by an popup adblocker

Stream keeps on buffering
In Windows Media Player you can improve this. Go to Extra, Options, and then tab performance to extend the netwerkbuffer to 15 seconds.
